Former US President Jimmy Carter dies at 100

Former US President Jimmy Carter has died aged 100, his foundation has announced. He died on Sunday afternoon at home in Plains, Georgia; his family calls him “a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.

“US President Joe Biden describes Carter as “a man of principle, faith, and humility,” while President-elect Donald Trump says Americans owe Carter a “debt of gratitude.”

Former president Bill Clinton says Carter “lived to serve others.” To honour the occasion, volunteers with Habitat for Humanity—the housing charity Carter has worked with for 40 years—built 30 homes in Minnesota in October.

Furthermore, the Carter family celebrated Jimmy Carter, the former US president’s 100th birthday.

Carter served as the 39th president for one term from 1977 until 1981 and was the longest-lived president in US history.

DNC Chair Jamie Harrison was among the party members who mourned the loss of Carter.

In a statement, Harrison described the former president as a “man who exemplified what it means to serve on behalf of the American people.
