The nation mourns the passing of Mzee Nathan Okori, aged 97, father of the late Jacob Oulanyah, former Speaker of Uganda’s 11th Parliament. Heartbreakingly, Mzee Okori passed away on March 20, the same date his son died four years ago.
Uncanny Timing of Tragedy
Jacob Oulanyah passed away on March 20, 2022, at the age of 56 while receiving specialized medical treatment in Seattle, Washington, USA. Now, exactly four years later, his father has also passed, marking an emotional moment for the family and the nation.
Mzee Nathan Okori was receiving treatment at Lacor Hospital, where he succumbed to his health complications.

Parliament Leaders Share Their Condolences.
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, shared the sad news on his X account:
“This is uncanny! On the fourth anniversary of the death of Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, we have lost his father, Mzee Nathan Okori! Two days ago he was rushed to Lacor with respiratory complications, and today he passed away. Sad!”

Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, also mourned the loss:
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform our esteemed colleagues, the Parliament fraternity, and all who loved our brother, the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, that his father, Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, has passed away at the age of 97 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Lacor. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.”
Funeral Arrangements Pending
The family will announce burial and funeral arrangements soon. Once the schedule is released, the public will be informed so they can pay their respects to the late Mzee Nathan Okori.
