Eight people have been confirmed dead and eight others are currently nursing critical injuries after unknown assailants attacked residents of Mizizi A Village, Kyaterekera Sub County, in Western Uganda’s Kagadi District
The tragic incident, according to police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, occurred on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, and is currently a subject of investigation by police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Kituuma identified the deceased as Boniface Rogers Nyirambe, 41, Yokononia Isakara, 76, Kabuwere Norah, 64, Praise Muhindo, 7, Anitah Kabugho, 44, Masika Kabagenyi, 3, Baluku Ferdinandi, 13, and Olive Kabugo, 13.

Furthermore, the injured victims, eight in number, are admitted to various clinics in Kyaterekera, where they are currently receiving treatment.
According to preliminary information from police, it is alleged that “members of a new cult whose name is yet to be established descended on people, most of whom are their family members, and cut them using sharp objects, leading to their deaths and others being injured.”
“A joint team of police officers and UPDF responded to the incident. They managed to encounter two suspects, Baguma Obedi, 33, and Munyirambe David, 36, who were put out of action,” Mr. Kituuma said in a Wednesday police statement.
“We are investigating the incident, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown. We appeal to the public to provide any information regarding this incident. Your cooperation is crucial in bringing the perpetrators to justice,” police emphasised.
In conclusion, Maj. Billal Katamba, the Mountain Division and Operation Shuuja spokesperson, says the UPDF, police, and ISO are on the ground hunting for the culprits as investigations continue.
