Edwin Van DER Sar has been admitted to intensive care after suffering bleeding around the brain, his former club has confirmed.

The former Manchester United legend, 52, is currently in a stable condition after falling ill while on holiday in Croatia, according to Dutch broadcaster Nos.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils, Van der Sar’s former club, which he helped scoop four Premier League titles, have paid tribute to the world-famous goalie on Twitter, writing: “Sending all our love and strength to you, Edwin.”

In addition, Ajax released a statement confirming his condition, writing: “On Friday, Edwin van der Sar had  bleeding around his brain. He’s currently in the hospital’s intensive care unit and is in a stable condition. Once there is more concrete information, an update will follow. Everyone at Ajax wishes Edwin a speedy recovery. We’re thinking of you.”

Van der Sar most recently worked at the Eredivisie giants but left his role after the club finished third last season.
Alex Ferguson and Van der Sir’s relationship after signing him earlier:

In 2009, Man United manager Alex Ferguson came out and said that he wanted to sign Edwin van der Sar way earlier.

He would have loved to have him as Peter Schmeichel’s replacement in 1999; however, former chairman Martin Edwards had different plans back then.

“There is no doubt about it; it was a mistake not signing Edwin in 1999,” Alex Ferguson said in an interview in 2009.

He added: “I did want him, but at the time, (former chairman) Martin Edwards had done a deal with Mark Bosnich, and, unfortunately, it was too late for us because Edwin went from Ajax to Juventus instead.

“But throughout the 2004-05 season, we were assessing where we should be going in terms of the goalkeeping situation, and I left it to our keeping coach, Tony Coton, to get all the information.

“A lot of goalkeepers were a possibility, but Van der Sar’s name just came up all the time, so we didn’t hesitate at the end of the season. We did a deal quickly.

“For Edwin, it was a great lift for him, but also for us. He has brought incredible knowledge and patience to the back four; his use of the ball is excellent, and he has all the technical attributes you need.”
